It
was a little over three years ago, I wrote an article titled "I
Want My Favorite TV Show on DVD". At that time,
I mentioned that "Get Smart",
"Welcome Back, Kotter",
"One Day at a Time"
had yet to debut on DVD. Fast forward to 2007, the first seasons
of "Welcome
Back, Kotter" and "One
Day at a Time" are on DVD, while the Complete Series of
"Get
Smart" is available through Time-Life. Still, there are
other TV shows that have yet to debut on DVD, like "The
Six Million Dollar Man",
"The Bionic Woman (1976)" and "The
Wonder Years". What about these classics?
I also mentioned in
the article, that with the explosion of TV
Shows on DVD, many fans wanted to see their favorite
TV shows to appear on DVD. My current web site at that time, Order
DVD TV Shows received countless requests from readers
asking, "When will this show be available on DVD?" or
"How can I request this show to come to DVD?" With those
concerns in mind, we added a section called the "Watch
Lists". The "Watch
Lists" was and still is, a convenient way for fans to have
a voice to bring their favorite TV shows to DVD. All a reader had
to do is make their request be known through a specific "Watch
List" (or request a new one) and Order DVD TV Shows would send
you an e-mail notifying you when it is available.
Since late 2004, we
have seen many requests from our readers for other TV
titles as well as many changes in the entertainment
industry in regards to studios getting their content out to the
masses. Our readers wanted to add TV
movies and TV specials
to our Watch Lists. We did not honor their requests, because it
was just too many TV movies
and TV specials to
keep track of.
We also began to witness,
the rise of other media formats, such as HD-DVD,
Blu-Ray and downloads
in addition to DVD
. After giving some thought to these reader requests and industry
changes, we then decided to move in a different direction. Therefore,
earlier this year, we changed our name from Order DVD TV Shows to
TV On Media to reflect
reader requests and industry changes.
TV On Media now has
Watch Lists for TV
Movies and TV
specials, in addition to TV
shows and TV
mini-series. We now also report on all media formats. For example,
although "Seinfeld"
completed its run on DVD, we will still report news if and when
"Seinfeld"
comes to HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, downloads or whatever to our readers who
have signed-up to the "Seinfeld"
Watch List.
Since starting these
Watch Lists, we have
had an enormous response from our readers over the years. Fans cannot
get enough of signing up to our lists. We continue to get requests
daily to add new ones.
By signing up for
a specific Watch List, not only does TV On Media do the watching
for you, but also by placing your name on the Watch List of your
choice, will enable TV On Media to go to the studios and request
a release. Once a list grows to 1,000 or more, we will contact the
studio that owns the rights to a specific TV title and request they
make it available for DVD and these other formats.
These days our most
popular Watch List requests are for "Party
of Five", "Dynasty",
"Once
and Again" and "7th
Heaven" (all of these shows have come to DVD, but fans
are waiting for the remaining seasons to come to DVD). We have also
added Watch List
Groups in the Community section of our web site. These are companion
groups to our Watch Lists for users who want to communicate with
other fans of a specific TV title within the TV On Media community.
