Earlier
this year, NBC Universal and News Corp. (parent of Fox Entertainment)
announced a joint venture to create an online video demand service
that offers video sharing. In August, the named of the company was
revealed: Hulu. Back in August, I had signed-up to receive
access to the private beta for Hulu.
Invitation-only beta
testing for Hulu began in October. Early last week, I finally
received my invitation to access the website, and I must say I am
pleased with the product. Hulu offers premium video content
from NBC and Fox, as well as content from 15 cable networks including:
Bravo, E! Entertainment, FX, Sci-Fi and more. Hulu has
also stuck deals with Sony and MGM to bring some of their content
online into the fold.
A few of the shows
you can view online at Hulu are Firefly, 24,
The Simpsons, Chuck, Bionic Woman (2007),
Heroes and many more. After using the service for a week
now, I am pleased to say, that it is so easy to view an episode
with ease. I have been watching episodes of Chuck, Firefly
and Buck Rogers.
Hulu offers
eight icons to assist you with your viewing experience:
Share: You can send an email of a
video to your friends. You have the option to make it a clip,
or let them see the entire video
Embed: You can add a video to your
web site or blog (embedding is on selected videos). You also have
the option to make it a clip
Details: This gives to the details
of the video you are watching; when it was first aired, the studio
its from, synopsis, etc.
Feedback: If there is a problem with
the video you are watch ling, you can send contact Hulu to handle
it
Full Screen: Watch the Video in full
screen
Pop Out: You can pop out the video
player and place it anywhere on your computer screen and re-size
it if you're multi-tasking
Lower Lights: You can dim the lights
and mute the rest of the browser window so nothing distracts you
from the video you're watching
Rate: You rate the video you are viewing
up to five stars

at Hulu, you will have to sign-up
at their web site and wait for your invitation (it could take
a couple of months). In the meantime, I have added some videos from
